This friendship between the islands was symbolised in a ceremony in which athletes, carrying the flags of their islands, brought water to a central fountain.
In 1995, it was Gibraltars turn to host the games, in celebration of the occasion, two commemorative coins were issued depicting various athletes taking part in a number of events.
