On 21st April 1926 Princess Elizabeth was born in London, the first child for the Duke and Duchess of York. Just 25 years later, following the untimely death of her father King George VI, Elizabeth acceded the throne to become Queen Elizabeth II.
Her Majesty is now the oldest reigning monarch in British history, and also currently in the world. Both are incredible achievements in longevity and the unwavering sense of duty held by the Queen.
Royal birthdays are always a time for great celebration, and such a milestone as this is significant as we may never see this again achieved by a ruling monarch of Great Britain, especially not in our lifetimes, and is definitely a time to pay tribute to Her Majesty.
