Description
The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 left a profound impact worldwide. Her image had graced Gibraltar's coinage for decades, symbolising stability and tradition. Gibraltar was among the first territories to unveil a new effigy of King Charles III. This effigy, created by sculptor Raphael Maklouf, is exclusively used on Gibraltar's coins, making him one of the few sculptors to have created effigies of two monarchs for coinage.
In tribute to this new Carolean era, we are proud to present the 2024 definitive coin collection. Each coin features unique elements, imagery, and symbols associated with King Charles III and his Coronation, including his Official Royal Cypher.
The 2024 collection sees the £1 coin change shape from the traditional round design used in 2023 to the new 12-sided version, marking a significant update to the series.
